Concept and Inspiration of the Instructional Video
Chicken Biryani | Best Rice Dish Ever (RAMADAN SPECIAL) (2023) YouTube. YouTube. Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTu1L16rsTY (Accessed: 20 April 2024).
The original video by Halal Chef posted on March 25th 2023 is a video that vividly explains the process of making Chicken Biryani in around 10 minutes. The Chef who owns the channel provides almost every single detail for the creation of the recipe for Ramadhan.

I wanted to set out to turn his 10-minute video into an animated video that was shorter than 1 minute and 30 seconds so that it was easier to digest for those who did not have an attention span that exceeded 2 minutes onwards.
The way the Biryani is made in my Instructional Video follows his Recipe nearly word for word.
Analysis of the Instructional Video

The video does its best to squeeze the information in Halal Chef’s video into a minute and 30 seconds. The different visual animations give a basic idea of what needs to be done when attempting to cook Chicken Biryani for Ramadhan.

The Illustrations also try their best to give a visual clue for the narration of the recipe and instructions to make the meal.
Design Processes of the Instructional Video from Pre-production to Post-production
Pre-production for the project really began sometime around the 15th of April. Choosing the correct Ramadhan Recipe proved to be time-consuming but I was able to make the Voice-Over Script by the 22nd of April.

The Production process then really began around the 22nd of April in Adobe Illustrator and all the Illustrations seen in the main video were completed by the 25th of April.
Post-production and editing really then began on the 26th of April. After all the elements were compiled, it was only a matter of putting them into After Effects to be animated and credits added.

Self-Evaluation of the Quality of the End-Product
While the work is satisfactory in my own personal opinion, the largest problem to me is that my lack of skill doesn’t allow me to try something more ambitious like the illusion of 3D in a 2D setting.

Furthermore, my inexperience has made it so I could not make pre-compositions of animations for the Illustrated Art. Said Pre-Comps would have made the video feel a lot more dynamic and maybe even made the audience much more engaged in the storyline of the video.

Finally, I plan to take on more ambitious shots that make the videos feel more like Hollywood movies despite the 2D space we are limited to.
